Towing 86 runner with 90+ runner??
would a new runner(90-95) with the 3.0 be able to pull my 86 on a towbar or dolly a couple hundred miles at the most to go wheeling?
just a theoreticle question, ive been saving up for an older ford diesel but i may want something with a little better gas mileage, this may be the way i go, not sure yet though.

I wouldn't think that would be a good idea. I searched a while, couldn't find anything on it. I think it would struggle to pull it base curb weight is like 3200 lbs right? Plus gear and gas in both vehicles, passengers, bigger tires and so on. The 3.0 doesnt put out tha tmuch more power than the 22RE and I wouldnt even attempt to tow more than 1000 lbs 200 miles....thats a long way IMO.

Tow capacity on the 4Runner is 3500 lbs. Your 86 will weigh over that easily.
I used my old 94 to tow an 85 from colorado to MN on a car trailer. Dumbest thing I've ever done - I risked my life and my then fiances life, not to mention the lives of others on the road, by doing so. It was a scary experience and not one I would recommend anyone repeat.
