So what are some of the tips & tricks to winning mud bog competitions? I have an automatic transmission and would like to know what are the best gears suggested to be running in. I would assume 4low & drive with 2nd & 1st as back up. Does that sound like a good plan? Then airing down, should I drop to around 10 psi? What about weight, does it assist you or kill you? And what is ideal when choosing a line to follow in the pit or just hit it balls to the wall down the center? Fill me in guys & gals. Ben
I don't know what mud is so I won't say much there.

Also, if you can get your attachment point high then you may have some more advantage.....maybe take a 12 inch drop hitch and invert it. Just make sure your bumper is up to the task. Autos are so nice for pulls.....just drop it in low 2nd and go. Work the front in BIG arcs....back and forth....don't let the fronts dig in any 1 spot too long. You win.

I'm back........
Holy SHHHH*T I missed having YT! I was in the middle of moving into my new house and didnt have phone service until today. So thats why I have been MIA. Trust me it sucked a$$ not have the net. Well here are the results. I didnt go up expecting to run, I figured I would puss out and watch. I just kicked back at first to see what this competition was going to be all about and then I went over to sign up. My buddy Charles and I went up in both of our 4runners. He has a red 94 with 7"s on 35"s. Yall know I have a 91 with 7"s but only days prior upgraded to the new Toyo OpenCountry MTs. They kicked some sweet a$$ lemme tell yuh. I took first on Saturdays event and my buddy Charles took first on Sundays. So the 4runners dominated the 4 & 6 cylinder class. We got some 2 & a half foot tall trophies with monster trucks on top. There were spose to be cash prizes but the event holders backed out saying they went over on budget. With that subject I plan on calling the event holders and digging for info. I paid $40 for an entry fee, $1,000 for tires, & $45 in fuel to run this event expecting the rumors to hold true of a $2,000 pot. So that part I am not trying to ponder on to much. I made it through the entire weekend with nothing more that a bad sun burn & scratched bushwackers from some kids at a donation style carwash in Chelan Washington. We were heading back to Wenatchee Washington from Manson Washington when we passed by one of those car washes where the kids are screaming for yuh to stop. My buddy Charles came across on the CB, "shall we" & I replied "oh hell yeah". We ended up giving them $26 to wash both rigs. There ave. donation was only $5 per car so we wanted them to make a few bucks off us. Thats how my bushwacker got scratched. One of the kids was using an ice scraper to get the mud off. I dont dare wanna see the body where he may have gotten. All in all we had fun and that was what it was all about. Oh yeah being this was this event holders first mud bog there were only five total rigs in the 4 & 6 clyinder class. Three 4 bangers (82 Toy P/U that was jacked, mid 80s Ford Ranger, late 70s toy p/u then charles and I with our 3.0s. Fun stuff. thanks for the advice prior to the event everyone. Here is the set up I went with.
*Tires @ 10psi
*ditched the spare & tool boxes
*4 low & 2nd with my auto trans
Pics coming soon.

4Runners hit the pits 1st & got stuck
Not only the 4runners got stuck 1st but the domestics went right after expecting to plow through. NOPE! They all got stuck to. They had to run the cat through to make the pit passable. This pic was of my 1st & only time getting stuck for both Saturday & Sunday.

On the line ready to kick each others a$$. The cool part bout doing this comp with a buddy with the same rig was your settings are so alike & sharing tips on lines in certain lanes gives you the advantage. Tag team style!
