Somewhat out there idea for a new type of SAS?
So i got to thinking the last week or so. I know a guy here who's very into landcruisers, and has an FJ-40, but his brother has an FJ80. What do people think of getting axles and suspension set up from a wrecked FJ80. the front axle is passenger side drop (good for 4Runners) and you get front and rear electric lockers, plus as far as i know, they are 8"diffs. Be pretty easy to regear and then do the swap. You'd have a nice comfy coil spring set up and if as far as i can tell, all you'd have to do is weld on the spring mounts, the shock mounts and the brackets for the front and rear links. Plus, these are wider axles than whats on my first gen, so you'd get a wider track.
Not that this is ANYWHERE in my near future, but i was thinking about it, and everyone i see doing swaps is usually going for leaf springs with D44's or toyota axles from early trucks. So, what do you think?

Well, i wasthinking a long travel kit for like an XJ jeep or perhaps something from Slee off road. But, this is probably way too expenisve and un feasable, consideirng all i have to do is weld on 4 hangers and cut off the IFS and get an axle off an early truck.

The rear diff is not centered either.
Stock anything sucks. Links, long arms, etc. are what make the travel.
Up front is really cozy, no easy way to do separate coils, shocks and links without getting crowded.

Seems the best way is just to copy what toyota did on the other first gens. I was thinking about D44's from a dead scout II that we have sitting around, but it turns out they have really wierd casters. Probably won't work. Oh well, this wasn't going to happen anytime soon anyway.

The entire FZJ-80 front suspension onto a 4Runner gig has already been done with great success. I'll have to find pics, but I think it was bjowett's rig. He followed that with a rear (and rare) 8" rear FF axle converted from DRW to SRW and disk brakes. Both axles ended up in the 63" WMS to WMS range.

4runner4ever has put a rear FJ-80 axle in his 4Runner by cutting the long side and doing it the same lenght as the short one. The diff is centered now. You've pics in this same section.
