Well I thought it might be a good idea to have a snorkel, just in case I end up in deep water..

But I don't want a huge pipe sticking out of my hood!


So I ran a 2" ABS pipe from the air box to the AC cowl, and sealed the box. I had to move a few things that were bolted down, just a few inches away from the pipe to clear it. It was a tight fit, I thought about going through the fender, but this is easier to take off (keeping it all inside the hood)
Parts-

Hole Saw *2.5" I believe, I will have to check*

21" of 2" ABS straight pipe (about 21")

1 45* female to female short elbow

4 90* street elbows (male to female)

Ultra Black RTV silicone

1 metal hose clamp

Paint (on hole I cut to prevent rust)




I used a hose clamp on the outside clamped down, with the female connector end of the piece of pipe to keep it clamped in place on the box, then sealed it with RTV silicone, including the small drain holes inside the box, completely sealing it








What do you guys think??? I am happy with it, I didn't notice any loss of power at all. I can hear the intake a little bit more inside, but it's barely noticeable, I actually kind of like it .

I think it looks really good. How much work, if any, did you do inside the cab? Looks tons easier than the Safari snorkel I installed last week. Good clean install

that's not too bad,

just make sure that all the other places in the intake tract are sealed up good, like the seal on the airbox from top part to bottom part, alot of guys tape it up so it's not permanent

and don't forget about the silly stuff like the dist., the diff breathers and random vac hoses

I like this idea a lot. Would be nice to have a snorkel without all that pipe sticking out along the fender.

More details on the cab termination... would be great.

Looks awesome and functional! and a HELL of a lot cheaper! I might think about doing it if you get a write up on it. That would be great! and x2 on the cab termination details

Also make sure to seal the air box mounting bolt holes, they may not leak to begin with but why take the chance??

It just ends up in the cowl part (where the vent/AC draws from).. It would have been too loud inside the cab (I have seen that done before). I dont think I will be going in water deeper than my hood

Yes, next step is all the breathers, dist,. and vac lines

Didn't it draw air from inside the fender before? Mine does, it's an '05 Taco though, and that mod would only move the intake opening a couple of inches at most for me. I'm not trying to poo poo your mod, and in fact I may be missing something, I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth the trouble for me.

Just routing it into the cowl seems like a waste of time and effort to me (don't get me wrong, you did a very nice job of it) because your only gaining a few inches, and idk about you, but when I hit big puddles, the water usually splashes up all over the hood/windshield/roof, and I would think that all the water could easily feed down into the cowl...

Ive done this mod before on my 85, and never had a problem taking on water, or rain haha. having the intake at the headlight is REALLY bad because any splashing goes straight into the box *found out from seeing other trucks suck in water from below their bumper height*

If I am in water over my hood, I have other problems to worry about...

I have had water go up to my hood, and wash over the sides of my windsheild before without sucking in water, so It works for me.

trust me, its worth the trouble if you go through water up to your headlights one day, and dont want a full snorkel... Ive had too many close calls before doing this mod.

no, it doesnt suck in rain... its not at the bottom of the cowl, and the cowl has drain holes. I live in washington, it rains enough to know.... Ive tested by spraying the hose on the cowl for a while and didnt get a drop in the intake even after running the truck
