$160 each really isn't that cheap...
Check out Discount Tire Co. I got my BFG muds for around $145 each in mid-2003. Though if I were to do it all over again, I'd go with the BFG ATs. The muds aren't very good in the rain.

Go to les schwab if you have one and take a look at the TXRs, RVTs, or even the Radial SXT mud terrains...you can't beat their service if you ever have a prob and its doubtful you will...I've heard that Dueler M/Ts are great tires and they are what I was going to get until I realized how expensive they were.

i run wild country radial RVTs (a radial mud terrain tire). you can get them at local mom and pop tire shops that sell "off-brand" or "private label" tires.
they cost me $90 each installed, and i love them. i have beat them pretty hard offroad, and they have held up. they give me great traction offroad, and they handle nearly as well as my old firestone wilderness A/Ts on road.
they are wearing quite well, also.

I just put a set of 31/10.50/15 kumho venture's on my nissan from www.tirediscounters.com for $610.00 total including alignment. So far the tires are great, minimal road noise, and I got try them out this weekend at www.haspinacres.com , and can't say enough about them.....WOW
I was gonna go with the bfg's to but it was gonnna be right at $800 total.

i guess it's a matter of what part of the country you're in...or maybe prices have sky rocketed in the last year,, but have you tried shopping around at all?
at any rate, i've been quite happy with them.

keep in mind you have to drive on these, i would never put a re capped tire on the front of my truck or anywhere, semi trucks are not alowed to have tires like that run on the front axle because its not safe. thats my opinion, its you riding on them, i would go BFG at or mt. i have the all terrains and its the best tire i have ever had, had maybe 20 different tires in last 2 years, bfg is my favorite.

i heard from the guy i got my tires from this spring that Pro-Comp is running their buy 3 get 1 free sale at the end of september. I got 4 305/70/16's MT's for 585 and change when they were running the sale this spring. then it was another 40 for mount and balance. I might be switching to AT's for the winter if the price is right. The MT's are great, especially in the rain. They are siped so wet traction is good.
