for anyone that might worry about cutting the wimpy blue air lines . . .
"THESE ARE THE SAME HIGH QUALITY MATERIALS USED IN OUR BRAIDED BRAKE LINES, BUT THESE LINES FEED AIR TO YOUR ARB AIR LOCKER!"
Independant 4x4 ARB airlines
On my list for future purchase fo sho. Not tryin to pimp thier product but seems like a great idea to me.

this is kinda old, but I was thinking. Could I take the whole rear end out of a late model taco or runner with the e-locker and put it under mine. Do they have disc brakes in the rear? if so will my brake lines just hook right up to them? Would I need to get anything else from it? What kind of price would I be looking at from a junkyard? I know it wouldnt take much for me to put it under there and bolt up the driveline, ubolts and brake lines.....then all i would need to have help with would be wiring. I want the E-locker, but its to expensive for all the labor and parts for that matter. Any input?

From my research...
4Runner Auto's that came with Elockers are 4:30s.
4Runner 5Speeds with Elockers are 4:10s.
4cyl 4Runner 5sps came with the 4:56's.
I am not sure on the Tacoma, but my friend has a 5 Sp TRD Taco with 4:10's and elocker.
I got a used set from an Auto 4runner with 4:30's front and rear from a yard for $650. The install is pretty simple. The wire harness isn't too bad either.
I prefer Elocker. Some I have wheeled with, seem to get a leak with their ARB in the diff and have to run the Compressor all the time to keep the locker engaged.

ok i bought the e-locker and took it to my local 4x4 shop (not the same shop i mentioned earlier in the thread). they pulled out my rear third and found out that i had 4.56 gears. so all they were going to have to do was put the 4.56's that came out of my open diff and put them in the locker third and wire it up. they called a week later saying that an ARB air locker was going to be $100 cheaper. they said it would take $1900 to do the e-locker alone and $1800 for the air locker with the hose attachment. guess which one i picked...... on board air is rad. they told me that if i could do all the wiring and modifications myself it would be a great way to go but since i couldnt, i was going to have to pay a lot. i vote ARB!

Wow byron, that's expensive. I paid $250 cad. to have my housing modified, and then it took me maybe an hour and a half to add the wiring myself. Regearing is only about $150 when the diff is out. This is all in Cad dollars too. I would say that the people at the shop you went to are not shy in their billing department.
