Parallel is the connection you want, batteries in series add the voltage so unless you are planning to upgrade your vehicle's components to 24 volts, it serves no purpose.
I run 2 smaller AGM batteries in my truck, a pair of 800CA units, fairly easy to drain one in camp, at about 26AH capacity, but then there is the one in reserve: http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTri...atteries.shtml
