What gears do you have now? I have always been told 5.29s for 35-37.

What transmission do you have ?
I had a 85 4runner 22r , 5 speed, 35" with 4:88 . Did good for all around driving.
If i were to do it again i would have gone 5:29
If you live or drive more in the mountains i would go 5:29.
If your ever think you might go bigger tires go 5:29
If you have an automatic transmission you might want to go 5:29 to help that 22r turn that transmission a little easer.
Just my opinion .

Get lots of opinions from people that are running those gears cause its to expensive to redo ! Call and ask marlin crawler or Daves off road.

You could do 4:88 and try them out . They come stock on some 2nd gen 4runner. You could just swap the diff's or just the rear first to drive around town to see if you like them . Should be cheaper than getting new gears .
I did that to my friends 86 4runner that was running 33".
Look here for diff info

I'm probably gonna go with 5:29 just because of all the hills and mountains around where I live and there is a possibility that I might eventually go with bigger tires i don't drive on the interstate anyways

I'm running 5.29's in my 88. Was perfect for the 22RE when it was my daily driver. Now that I have a 3.4, I think I could have gotten away with 4.88's.

Still glad I went with 5.29's because I want to eventually go with 37's.

in 20+ years ago i learned my gear lesson. 84 X-cab, put 33's on it and 4.88's it was great. a few month later went to 35's and regeared t0 5.29's. It was an expensive lesson to gear for what you should.
I DD my 81 50% of the time with 35's and 5.29's, my speedo is pretty close to spot on and I can do 65 with ease.

Lifted Toyota trucks with big tires aren't made to be a Vette, they handle like an outhouse on a skateboard.

I would suggest going to 5.29 gears. We also offer complete third members custom built for you. If you have any questions or need a quote let us know.
