1" or 2" body lift for a 2nd gen 5-speed?

I have been perusing the body lift info on Roger Brown's website and I wanted to get some feedback from those of you who have already body lifted your 2nd gens, especially those with manual transmissions.

I'm getting ready to do a body lift in the first phase of mods so I can eventually fit 33s on my truck. I don't think I will ever install tires larger than 33s and from what I have read, with a 1" body lift and some BJ spacers up front 33s should fit no problem.

If you only went for 1" BL are there times when you wish you would have went with 2" for some reason or other?

It sounds like body lifting a manual trans 2" involves less headaches than lifting the auto 2" but I don't want to raise up the body any more than necessary.

Has anybody installed a 1.5" body lift? I haven't seen one available in that size but who knows .

roger brown can make you a 1.5" bodylift... or you can get a 2" yourself and cut it down....... but if hes offering to do it, heck i rather have someone else make it........

I just installed my 1.5 inch RB body lift. I'm glad I didn't do 2" due to gap issues at my front ARB, which got the 'ol Home Depot trim fix (2" would have been too much). Also, I wanted to er on the safe side when it came to streching all the various brake lines, wires, gas filler tube, etc. My friend did a 2" on his Taco, and has some wierd vibrations and noises that I didn't get. Also, his gas filler had to get detached. He's running 285's with just the 2" BL, but rubs pretty bad at the frame.
1.5 accomplised exactly what I was looking for- NO rubbing aymore, even with swaybay disco'd and 285's (I do have 2.5" OME as well).

Mines a 3rd gen, but some of these issues may be similar with yours.

really?!?!?! 1.5" BL hmmmm cause i can't really decide if i should go with 1 or 2" as well, but i have some time before i really start thinking about it. i need money!!!!

That's why I call them "Custom Body Lift Kits". I've done 1/2", 1", 1.25", 1.375", 1.5", 1.75", 2", 2.5", 3". Anything above 1" up to 2" tall is the same price.

I have a 1" with 33's.

With more aggressive fender trimming I bet I could get 35's on.

1" is pretty idiot proof.

I have trimming, pounding, adjusting, beating at the seam, but I have not removed any part of the fender. I think that if I did, I could get more rubber with the same lift.

This might sound weird, but another 1/2 inch would make my rig look lifted. I can't explain it. The 1" is great, and works/worked awesome for why I bought it, but I just wish it looked a little more lifted. Ya know? I guess I sound strange, but a good example would be when I park next to "stock" 4Runners; you really can't tell a difference unless you know what you are looking for.

I would prefer that the average dude/dudette be able to tell my rig is lifted. Dumb reason really.

hey roger... do you make your own bj spacers? or sell a set of someone else's manufactured ones? i have thought about adding bj spacers to my truck... but no one makes them for the 4x2 trucks.... otehrs on hte site have also thought about it, but also found htat nno one makes them.... is there a chance of making some?

Actually, I had the same question! Are the BJ spacers someone elses, or do you make your own, possibly to eliminate the need for grinding the A-arm on the 4x4?

That's a ligit reason in my book and I asked for ANY reason so thanks. Does the front bumper lift up the body on the 3rd gen? The gap in the front end on the 2nd gens is usually of 2nd gen body lift giveaway unless you relocate the bumper or have an ARB that looks totally different from the stock bumper anyway.
