Question New Tundra on the Horizon?

I'm looking to buy a new Tundra (or Sequoia) in the next year or two.

I recently read (Autoweek maybe?) that there is a new generation Tundra around the corner and that it will grow slightly to a true full-size dimension as in Ford or Chevy sized.

1. Does this have any validity?

2. If so what is the rumored timing?

3. Any info. on details on size, power, etc.?

TIA

I don't have any "inside" knowledge whatsoever but by reading different articles it appears that Toyota has a projected date for the HD or 3/4 ton in 2005, the same year the Sequoia gets a face-lift and a navigation option. However, the double cab will be available in 2004 with the 4.7 engine. This was posted in Japan a little while back:

5.5I in 06 - this was an announcement of the auto industry newspaper of Japan about TUNDRA today. ........Toyota Motor Corp. supplies the pickup truck "TUNDRA" enlarged to 5500 cc of displacement volume in 06 to a North America market. The whole quantity of TUNDRA which carries out a local production by the U.S. Texas leaguer factory of an operation schedule and TMMTX in the same year is considered as 5500 cc type. Although the present TUNDRA is 4700 cc type, full line-ization of a pickup truck is attained by enlargement. 5500 cc type which newly carries out a market injection develops and carries new style V8 engine. Sales promotion is aimed at as a type on a one rank existing 4700 cc type in the North America of power serious consideration...........

based on this article I would expect the Tundra to be a "full" half ton in 2005 and the optional 3/4 ton in 2006 - but your guess is as good as mine.

Thanks Joe.

The timing might be just right for me...

Do you have any other details on terms of size, power, etc.?

With the Tundra already being somewhat underpowered and the Titan having over 300 I would imagine they would have to increase to be competitive.

Thanks guys for the good information. I too am looking at a Tundra or Sequoia and was interested in any more market intelligence that was out there other than the blurb in Autoweek.

I have found a clean & loaded '01 Sequoia 4x4 Limted with 29k miles and a year left on the factory warranty and an extended warranty. The seller wants $28K for it. I am trying to decide if I want that truck. After 12 years with my Runner, I think I'd like to have 4 doors but also a bed to carry things which the Sequoia doesn't have. The Sequoia does have the feature of a sunroof which the current Tundra doesn't have......I'd have to wait for the double cab Tundra for a factory sunroof. But then it'll be soon replaced by a truck with a larger engine.

Hmmmmmmm.......Decisions....decisions....decisions

Underpowered Tundra???

Don't really understand the part about the Tundra being underpowered. I have a 2000 Tundra and am more than impressed with the 4.7L V8 that mine came with. Haven't raced anyone or been clocked in the quarter mile but I can blow by about 98% of the people on the road!

You can easily get over 300 from a Tundra V8 with the TRD supercharger
Also, I bet the stock 4.7L will out perform the Titan and most other vehicles that claim/print higher HP numbers.

I'm with nvinson, my '02 Tundra has no problem pulling away from most vehicles on the road - that is until the rev/speed limiter kicks in Iwana unichip!

Don't be so eager to belive everything the marketing team puts out - get your butt behind the wheel and find out for yourself.

A new Tundra is coming this summer or fall of 2003 the Tundra Quad Cab it is a True 4 Door with a full size bed and about 3 inches deeper. I think it still going to use the same 4.7 engine and i longer than the F-150 Supercab.
