new motor in Sequoia
Well I am getting a new motor in my sequoia. Toyota pulled the motor & it was out of spec for piston to wall clearance. It all started with the famous piston slap noise when it was below freezing out - but mine was louder than normal - so they pulled the motor & tore it down.

It is a 2003 with 93,000 km (56,000 miles) so I am just barely still in the warrenty period. Yup the dealership is paying for the motor. We bought it in July and I first noticed the noise at the beginning of the winter but then we had reall ywarm temps until about a month ago & it reminded me to take it in. I left it overnight & they said it was too loud but if the damage was from oil starvation it wouldn't be covered & the cost to diagnos it is $1500-1800 because they have to pull the motor. I wanted a secon opinion so I took it to another dealer & they said it was OK. when I wen to pick it up I listened to two others on the lot & they weren't as loud, so I had them listen to it again later that week - they said it was OK but ya it was louder than normal.
So I hummed & hayyed & bit the bullet & said go ahead - lucky for me the clearances were out of spec & that meant a new motor & I don't pay the diagnostic fee.
This seems to be realy rare. I have only come across a couple of people to have the motor replaced. One guy in Ottawa & another guy had one but it was because of a low end knock. Mybe I am Irish??
So now I have a new motor which is great all I have to pay for is a block heater & I told them to replace the timing belt since they are in there.
the funny thing is it ran well
