Ummm, and there are a TON of folks on the forum that say it helps a lot.

It's a matter of getting more air to the engine in a shorter amount of time. Any time that you can remove restrictions from the intake path, you can improve performance. The intakes on our rigs are restrictive, and opening up the front of the air box makes them MUCH less so.

To get the best effect from the mod, you also need to move to a less restrictive air filter. Many folks run Amsoil, K&N's are around as well.

Uhhhhhhhhhh, maybe for your 4Runner. The MAF in the Tundra is really sensitive and although it may not appear to show in diagnostics (i.e., check engine light), the motor starts to run lean mixtures of fuel delievery because there is so much air running past the MAF. And even those K&N's and Amsoil filters are not good because of the oil content and the definite coating of the MAF wire (yes this will happen, even to the best of us that squeeze as much oil as they can out of the filter).

It all boils down to what you want to do, everybody has different views, but being a junior in the auto industry repair, I am starting to definilty think different about a good amount of mod's to vehicles vs really any improved performance in the long run.

I guess for the sake of the question, the 4" deckplate mod is probably the same as for your 4Runner, see if you can look it up on a search and it will only be a few creative re-routing things you might have to do.

Here's a start: Jackson's writeup

I did the deckplate mod to my T100 and it definately made a difference in sound. Its a lot louder coming from under the hood now. Also, my fuel mileage seems to have improved by 1-2 mpg. The nice thing is you can put the plate over the hole if you decide you dont like it!
