Ok, so first try rotating the tires. If it is tire noise, then basically I will hear the noise coming from a different location (aka if the front tires are making the noise and I move them to the back, I will hear the noise coming from the back after the swap) that is how i will know if it's the tires or not.

If that doesn't seem to be the issue, then pull the rear driveshaft and drive in 4wd. If I don't hear the noise anymore, I'll know it's the rear ds or u-joints, if I still hear the noise then it must be something on the front end, like a bearing, etc.

Do I seem to have all this correct?

Jackson, I'd be inclinded to agree with you. My friend had a 99 Tacoma with the same type of noise. It sounded like tire noise except it made the same sound regardless of ground you were driving on, even grass. Eventually the noise did get gradually louder over a period of about a year. The Toyota shop finally decided to replace the wheel bearing (Front right) and that took care of the problem.

Hanible, I had a wah wah in my rear about 4 months ago, now that I think of it. I went through the pulling the DS and driving in front wheel 4x test, replaced the rear U-joint on my slip yoke, pulled me rear third and reset the backlash (mainly because I had a clink that the new u-joint didn't fix). The clink was gone but the wah wah was still there. Upon rotating my tires 4 months ago the wah wah went away and the steering wheel began to shake a little, meaning an unbalanced or out-of-round tire like these guys were saying, especially since I threw a few weights and never got them balanced again. I ended up with a new Snapon Adj. Spanner wrench though since I bought it to set the backlash, hehe. anyway, I have been meaning to go have my tires balanced but now I think I am going to this weekend now.

Anyway, I hope for you it's that simple too.

Sorry, I couldn't help it. That just doesn't sound right.

I've got something like that... it's the rear u joint. waiting till pay day to get a new one. but if its coming from the front, pray it's the tires.

I had just eaten pizza and had a couple draft beers, that's easily explained. hehe. I'm glad I didn't say I had a wee wee in there. Although, I think it would sound more like Michael Jackson saying he had a wah wah in his.
