Vibration when braking

We've been having a vibration problem in our 1997 4Runner Limited. We have two seperate issues. One i know is the tire balance when we get above 65mpg. I'm talking about the God awful vibration when braking. I just did the Tundra brake upgrade, new shocks (front and back), timing belt, transmission flush, etc. I thought about the fact that it could be tie rods, control arm bushings, or steering rack bushings. However, it doesn't feel like I have a wandering problem or a problem with the wheels fighting against each other while I'm driving (bad tie rod). Does anybody else have this problem and know a solution. The 4Runner has 200,986miles on it and rides great except for this.

Thanks,

Isiah

If you didn't replace the rotors with the new brakes that is probably it. However why would the rotors become warped after a putting on new callipers. I thought usually warped rotors slowly get worse and worse.

Nah. It's not the rotors. Those were just turned at a reputable machine shop the other day. The old set did the same thing. The set before did too. I'm thinking it's suspension related. I just don't know what part usually goes bad.

The general consenus is that turning rotors doesn't solve the rotor warping problem. You just rewarp them soon after. Removing material doesn't help, either.

This isn't just a Toyota issue. A lot of good quality cars and trucks have rotors that really shouldn't be turned if there is any significant warping.

Good luck,

Sounds like the rotors weren't resurfaced correctly.

Drums warp, too. Is the vibration in the truck AND the steering wheel, or just in the truck? I have the same issue at the moment, but can isolate the vibration to the rear as it's not in my steering wheel.

I had some horrible shuddering braking last week and had the drums turned this weekend and all is well, have you checked to see if your rear seals are leaking into the drum?

Mine is the steering wheel also. It feels like something is loose. When I do low speed braking, I don't have any indication of warpage.
