Truck & 4runner 4wd components....

Hey all,
I have a '90 2wd 4runner. I'm thinking about converting it to 4wd (as some of you know from one of my previous posts). Well, there is a shop down the road that is selling a 90 or 91 Toyota truck. It's been in a rollover. It is a 4x4, ext cab, V6 and auto trans. Would the trans and all of the 4wd components fit from this truck to my 4Runner? Would the fact that the truck is an extended cab make any difference other than the rear drive shaft being longer? I would probably come out cheaper converting my 4runner to a 4x4 than buying a new one. The truck costs $1700 (I could probably talk him down) and I purchased my 4runner for $2400 last year. I doubt I could find a 4wd 4runner for that much. (if anybody knows of one please let me know)

Well, thanks for the help.
Have fun.

Is your truck a V6 or 4cy? Manual or auto? If its the same motor, and same tranny, then yes it will swap over. The axles will be the same.

Hey,
Sorry. I guess I left that out. My 4Runner is a V6 with an auto. It sounds like it would fit then. Cool.
Does a 2wd 4runner have all the mounting points for the 4wd components? Is there suppose to be another cross brace to hold up the transfer case? Or, does it share the same brace as the tranny?

Thanks again. Have fun.

You will need to get the t-case crossmember as well.

Not sure about how the axles would bolt up to the hubs and all that. You would also have to modify your interior to accomodate the t-case shift lever.

I was wondering about the hubs too. Thanks for the clarification about the cross member. I was thinking about making a custom center floor console for the shifters. I'd like to make one that curves up and meets the bottom of the ashtray. Maybe even have a slot for a CB and a few gauges and switches. Would be neat.

Thanks again.
