Sorry to bump an old post, but I can't seem to find what I need. I would like to put the TRD blower on my 99 4Runner, but by the time I can afford it it will have well over 200k miles. I am wondering if anybody has installed the sc with such a "broken in" engine, and if so, what sort of lifespan they got out of it? My main concern would be to screw up my engine somehow, as I've never owned a non N/A vehicle. I would definitely do the fuel upgrades, and the valve body one as well. Figure I might as well go full bore, ya know?

A guy in my offroad club had 230k on his S/C sport, i think he put the blower on at around 210k...it was still going strong when he recently sold it. However it was METICULOUSLY maintianed, and he only sold it b/c he got an 85' Runner to play with.

i am a member of mauzer's group and verify this to be true but i can say that its probably not suggested though it can work out. I think it all depends upon the engine and how it is doing... i personally wouldnt put one on with that much mileage bc the engine wont last too much longer so it seems as ull be testing ur engine's lifespan and its quite expensive for only about 100k more miles.

As long as the engine is in proper working order there is no issue with forced induction regardless of mileage. I have to agree though that you will have to stay on top of maintenance for sure but that's no different with any motor with high mileage soooo... Supercharge it!! I put mine on at 131k and have 139k currently and it's fine. Make sure to buy a fuel/timing mod from URD, it is necessary for the TRD S/C system. I like the 'fuel/timing upgrade kit' but a lot of guys get great results from URD's 7th injector too.
Happy wrenchin' !!

Those are some good points. I guess it's a pretty safe thing though, worst case scenario would be I mess up my engine, but the SC would probably still be good, and I could probably salvage all the fuel upgrades, valve body, and other mods I'd dumped a lot of money into. Since I plan on driving this rig until the wheels literally fall off, a supercharger may be the way to go to after all.

yup, I plan on rolling mine until a) someone steals it or b) it gets destroyed hahaha
all that stuff is certainly salvageable, if I ever total my truck, the 12mm socket is coming out and I'm unbolting my SC and pulling my FTC unit out before the cops arrive, I don't have gap insurance. rrrr...
the only real extra cost is rebuilding the guts of the supercharger at whatever intervals you choose (every 50k I think??) and tuning, although tuning can be learned if you do it with care and do a lot of reading (and purchase a wideband scanner). A little extra money and you have almost twice the horsepower which sure is nice on my DD rig. My 4runner with the 3.0 is going to get a 3.4 at some point soon and as soon as I can afford it, it's getting SC'd too!
I went back and forth on the SC issue for a couple years as I was kinda worried about longevity and $$$ but now that I've done it, I wish I would have done it when I first bought the truck. Take care of it and she'll go forever, SC or not!
