Paul,

Check out this information on Octane Boosting. It really does work and it's cheaper than those tiny little bottles of stuff that they sell. Here's a thread about it.

Hope this helps.

I received my headers today....yippie

They look real sweet. The instruction were updated in March and they have different gaskets than I have seen prior.

Next week on to Jet-Hot then the install. Hopefully I'll have it all going in a couple of weeks and I'll post my comments.

Swing em by anytime Paul, my Runner is ready for install.

That's awesome. Let me know if Toyowest lets you into the shop, I wouldnt mind stopping by and watching a little install action.

Wow, I really enjoyed reading that octane article Dr. Z!
Seeing as I used to be a trubo nut I have tons of friends with modded turbo cars and I'm going to get them to try it first!
Paul,
Have you done any fuel upgrades? Because if you havn't, then arn't they suppost to give you less power since the S/C is designed for stock everything and already running lean...? But, either way it will sound better and once you get the the fuel mods it will be even better! Not to be the , hope the install goes well! Glad my headers were fine b/c i'm not ready for another $1k expenditure... Can't wait to see the results!

Have fun with them!

Well....I picked up my headers from Jet-Hot on Friday and they look sweeet. I just made an appointment to get the headers installed. I'll drop it off Monday night so they have all day Tuesday for the install.

I spoke with the owner of the shop(Toyowest)who is a Toyota Master Tech and spoke with him about the fuel mods. He ask me what size injectors I was thinking of installing. I told him about the 305cc Supras and he said that was the best choice. He also suggested an aftermarket fuel filter stating the Toyota OEM filter is restricted. Anyone hear of this?

Anyway. I'll see how the performance is with the headers and debate the fuel mods. I'm sure I'll end up doing them. Probably the usally stated Walbro 190, 305 Supras and piggy-back.

I'll keep you guys posted on the header results...

Thinning wallet Paul....:fireman:

Dang, you're gonna have one of the fastest yota's out there. Besides that crazy ass 500hp one in a thread a looong time ago. You're gonna have to take it to the strip once you get those installed.

p.s. Are you gettin those baby's ceramic coated?

To answer your question Rob......scroll up...Jet-Hot did the ceramic coating last week. They have a shop here in Phoenix

I'm not sure about being all that fast. The s/c Runner with every speed mod still doesn't completely impress me. I use to have a Porsche and a '69 Firebird with (2) 4 barrels, 400 turbo tranny and 456 posi. Now those were fast. I'll scan some pics and post 'em. My 4 Runner is...lets say.......amusing....but fun.

We definetly need to get a meet together when it gets cooler and head down to Firebird (or up to that other place off Grand Ave). With a clutch/tire burning launch I think I can hit high 15's. We'll see.

no offense, but I hardly run mid 15's with a S/C, exhaust, intake and a bigger fuel pump.

None taken, but if the stock numbers are 16.4 (according to Vato Loco's sig) with an Auto, I would think a 5 speed with mods could get close to a 15.9. There's only one way to find out!

(Realistically I am thinking mid 16's)

Here is a site with some performance numbers. I know these are not set in stone, but it backs up Vato Loco on the 1/4 mile time of 16.4 (this one is 16.5).

Trust me Dan, I know actions speak louder than words. But again, it would be fun to get a bunch of guys and head out to the track, no matter what time everyone runs.

When does it cool off again, October?

I agree, we should head out to the track.

I am not trying to start a fight, but my runner did the quarter in around 18.5 seconds stock. (I have a G-Tech)

I have a hard time agreeing with that site, the reviewer thought the runner was front-wheel drive? WTF?

If the S/C only got me a 1 second drop in the quarter I am taking it off. I don't see how that is possible, since I got more than a 1 second drop 0-60. (9 seconds vs 7.2)

I dont trust G-Techs at all. My friends G-Tech gave him a 14 seconds flat 1/4 mile time in his Jetta VR6 3 times in a row. We went to the track and he ran a 15.4.

Anyway,

"Front wheel drive" in that article, lol. Your right.

I know published numbers can vary greatly due to factors such as the weather, traction, etc. One of the off-road mags, I think it was Off Road Magazine did a compro on an 01 Auto Taco 4WD and a Nissan Frontier. Both were supercharged. The pre SC'd Taco ran a 16.9 according to ORM. SC'd it ran a 15.9. (Beating the Frontier in either form ) So, I dont know. 1 second is a lot of time to lose. They say every 100lbs lost or every 20HP gained = .2 seconds off in the 1/4 mile.

I dont think we are arguing at all. Just having a friendly discussion. I like to explore all the evidence and possibilities before diving in (or burning off 1/4 of my clutch).

Here's a few pics of the headers with the ceramic coating as I'm taking them to be installed after work today. As you'll notice. TRD eliminated the "copper" gaskets and went with an OEM exhaust gasket for the cat and OEM material for the exhaust ports(hard to tell since they blend in with my carpet). They still suggest using the Permatex High-Temp Copper silicone for the gaskets. I'll have a few more snaps once they're installed.
