My girlfriend was driving my 1999 4Runer today and said that while she was on the freeway she noticed the shift lever dropped down (by itself) into second gear.

She also said that last night she was driving around town when she noticed the shifter was in 2nd again but she didn't put it there.

Any ideas???

Nope. Shifter feels fine. This is coming from my girlfriend, so I'll double check on Thursday when I'm with the truck

I cant imagine how it would POP out of first and then go into second.....on its own....

I think you should take a look and try and replicate the issue--but i see no way that it happening--

No popping out of second and going neutral---yes

I've tried to tell her all this but she is worried the trans is going to blow like my last one. I just replaced the transmission in December with a used one.
