Trailer converter part number

It has been a couple of years since I replaced my Toyota OEM Tailight Converter; but at the time my local Toyota Dealer only showed the complete trailer tow harness assembly including the converter and it was about $140.00! They are always at least 5% over manufacturers suggested retail price...just another reason to stay away from them if at all possible.
Local Trailer Supply Co (6-Roblees) had an aftermarket one. Hopkins Towing Solutions was the brand; Part Number was 48925, and it cost $21.00 and works just fine. Just had to splice it into the harness in the original converter's location.

I also replaced my broken Toyota converter with the Hopkins brand converter. It was about $35 from a local autoparts store. I use it several times per month and it's held up fine for the last year or so. I've heard that the factory converters are prone to failure if your trailer wires are short circuited...the Hopkins box apparently doesn't care because one of the trailers I pull has some messed up wiring and I've had no issues. 43415 is Hopkins part number for my 99-trust me you don't want the Yota version it does short out as stated above.
pretty sure that part number would fit an 02 also.
It is plug and play with your taillight harness if you remove both sides of the cargo area trim on a 99. If your converter box is located on passenger side already you maybe can avoid removing the drivers side rear trim-all depends where the 4 pin exits to meet the hitch area.
Otherwise it's an easy splice and play. I highly recommend also splicing in the LED output version of the 4 pin connector so that at your back end you can at a glance see which functions are properly working-or not.

Previous threads with the same question will yield results that include this wiring harness from etrailer. Just make sure you install it on the correct side - as per instructions. I believe that it will be the right side - as your factory harness is on the left.
