There's a warranty on the cats to 100k? Where do we find out about that? Is that an urban legend?

If your Runner still has the factory warranty manual, it will say in there how long the emissions warranty is. I remember it being 100K on my rig, but am not sure for how many years. Otherwise, just contact the dealer.

well, that can be bad cats, or a bad o2 sensor

if your o2 sensor has over 70,000 miles on it
far more likely a bad o2 sensor. 110 bucks for a new one. cheap way
to find out imho....cats are expensive

and yeah stealing your own cats to have insurance cough up
the hardward sounds attractive, but jail doesn't sound so cool

You do know ODBII is a protocol the ECU talks to diagnostic tools?
There are no ODBII compliant cats, ODBII compliant seat covers or ODBII compliant windshield wipers.

$300 to scrap an old cat? Do you come up with all this stuff yourself?

I think he was talking about 2 of them. I got $140 cash in hand for one at the scrap yard myself.
