Hey...I was thinking of installing something in my intake that would restrict the airflow, rob my engine of the oxygen it needs to make power, take money out of my pocket and deposit it into other folk's bank account. (sarcasm)

How many times have we seen this here? Send me $75....At least I won't make your 4Runner run poorly.

Imagine all the people that don't have a reliable source to tell them to not buy this waste of $$$.
I wish I would've invented it and I'm sure the guy who did knows it doesn't really do much but I'm sure his mind is at ease when he sees his bank statement.

This is why I love this forum. New to trucks (only had my 4runner for 3 months) but want to do a lot of mods. This forum and all the contributors have made my life so much easier.

Mods to date: Hella (OEM) fogs for the fatlip bumper, K&N FIPK (I know everyone hates it but I like it), Revtek lift kit (3 inches), Bilsteins, TV/DVD combo, and a self-amplified sub (Audiobahn).

Mods to come shortly: Flex-a-lite fan mod, Addco sway bars, and possibly 16" rims and tires (depends if I like a set that are on sale).

I've noticed Sam Memmolo, from 'Shadetree Mechanic', is advertising them now, amazing what some people will do for money.

I'd say the "tornado" would have about as much success in boosting your HP and mileage as slapping on some "TRD" stickers and a couple of "Prius" emblems...

geez, the guy asks a simple question...

Hill:
Chances are that if you've seen some sort of infomercial for a vehicle related modification it's been discussed here in one form or another. Searching will help you avoid the flaming some of these guys are so eager to dish out.

This month's issue of Popular Mechanics has an article on several 'fuel saving' devices including the Tornado. They did a set of very scientific tests and found that all of them reduced gas mileage and horsepower. One of the devices nearly caught on fire too!

Aw, c'mon Peter, at least speaking for myself, I'm not razzing him so much as I'm commenting on the nature of the "cheap and easy HP" type products...

Hill, I apologize if you felt like I was flaming you. I didn't intend to come off that way, I was just making light of the reality that most of us at one point or another have fallen victim to the "cheap and easy HP" myth. Including myself.

the reason whey peopel think the tornado is good is they use perfectly sound theory.... if you could swirl your intake air and get it more concentrated and dense, it would increase performance, but a chunk of metal blocking airflow isnt the way t odo it....

Nah... some people, not all.
it's just that if you read these posts all at once it *seems* like people are kind of starting to gang up. It's definitely not as bad as it can be, I just thought a couple posts were a little on the rude end.

The "swirled" airflow is usually already designed in the factory intake unless the engine is an inline design. Therefore the tornado kinda defeats the point Hill.

Edit: By the way Hill, do a search on the Taurus fan mod and save some big bucks on the Flex a lite fan.

Everyone knows it's 'Type R' stickers that increase horsepower
