tire help/advice
im looking into BFG A/T cuz it seems that everyone agrees that they are very good tires. anyway i have a stock 02 sport edition and someone told me 285/75 would fit but maybe they would have to raise some bar...i dont know what he meant. i was under the impression that 265/75 was as big as i could go without a lift. anyway they want $850 for all 4, mounted and balanced. having never bought tires for any vehicle i dont know if that sounds fair, lemme know what you guys think, thanks.

Don't blow your money on the BFG's!!!!!! They are nice tires...but not that nice!
I bought Toyo Open Country's for mine....they were $484 mounted and balanced! Put about 12k on them so far and they still look new!

I've used the BFG's and The Dueler AT's, For snow and mud BFG's IMO are worth every penny, I was able to go through 22" of snow and break a route for my neighbors all the time. I'm looking forward to my next set, And yes thats a average price, not saying above average, I know Costco won't put on 265/75R16's because it isn't stock well for my 99 anyways... You'll be happy with them, Are they the KO's?

I went from P265/70's to P265/75's on my 2000... Not even close to rubbing.
$850 sounds high, but I don't now BFG A/T's. Heck, when I bought REVO's they were in the $650 ballpark and I thought that was high.

bfg's are $151 on tirerack (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....e1=yes&place=4).
if you have a discount tire nearby they'll price match with tire rack. and any other good tire place should price match. so it would expect
4*151=$604 for tires
4*15=$60 for mount and balance
so i would pay no more than about $660 for the bfgs.

Got to say that I'm a big fan of the Wild country tires. They ride great, stop and go in rain , mud or snow with no problems and handle perfectly on the fast curves. $125.00 a piece mounted, balanced ,tax and out the door and they have aggressive tread. 31" rub just a little on my 01 Tacoma but only when I'm turning hard going down a steep hill. first off...do a search on tires.
You will find many people love the Nitto Terragrappler AT.
they are about 110/tire for 285s. So I would imagine 265s would be cheaper
that is shipped BTW

In my experiences this winter is my Nittos are a much better tire to live with (the Nitto's dry grip is surprisingly good for an AT tire) on a daily basis and they are much cheaper than the BFGs. I've driven on BFGs on several trucks and two other 4Runners and the Nittos are better on road and quite comparable to BFGs off road. Since I'm on-road more than off-road my choice was logical and fit my budget much better.

Hey PatHLC128;
Well GoodYear MTR's rate better then BFG M/T's!!
I'm running 275/75 MTR's on my 97 4Runner and they perform very well!!
I was gonna get M/T's for my truck untill I read up on the MTR's and compared the two..
Well good luck with you selection..

I also bought the Toyo Open Country AT. They are by far the best AT tire I have ever bought. They are made in Japan which we all know is far better.
