thanks all of you who helped me w/ my tranny issues

im so happy. i brought my truck into toyota yesterday and got my drain and fill done for the tranny. i was very impressed by the shop they have. you just pull up, the big garage door automatically opens, you pull in get a sticker and go into an office. they throw your car on one of like 50 station lifts. my clerk told me that my HG recall is available and asked if i wanted to do it today.(the toyota phone rep told me it was past the 8 years 100k). i declined. she said i can come back whenever to have it done.

anyways the truck feels totally different now. i used to have to have my rpm's at like 2800 to accelerate with traffic from a red light. now at like 2300 i keep up. i guess i was slipping. my truck shifts smoother and also goes into overdrive much easier. i used to have to take my foot off the gas to make it drop into overdrive.

thanks all of you that helped me decide on how to go about this. im going to do a drain and fill every 4-6 months now.

Every 4 to 6 months for a Tranny flush? Good maintence is nice but thats a little overboard. I changed mine every 12,000 miles or about once a year in my Dakota. But were talking about a 500 h.p. street truck and 125 passes down the 1/4 mile at 110 mph. I think doing a flush every 30,000 miles and changing your filter every 60,000 miles is good practice for the average vehicle.

no not a flush. just a drain. it only takes out about 5 quarts of fluid. i think if i did a full flush i would run into trouble. it was neglected for the 1st 110k miles.

I would do a drain and fill every 4-6 mos as you said until the fluid is perfectly clean.
After that you can begin to extend the service to every 15k or so.

Glad the service worked so well for you!
