Today I found out that the inner boot on my passenger side CV is torn and who knows how long its been that way (see https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f123/opinions-needed-brake-related-94352/ ). The boot is really dirty and theres no grease left inside so I would assume its been that way for a while. I haven't gotten too close and inspected it yet as it's late and dark. Anyway, is there something I can do for it _temporarily_ until I can replace the boot or whole shaft? i was thinking if it looks real dirty inside maybe i can use a turkey baster and spray some water inside to get the crap out, then dry it out as best i can, spray some wd40 in it (for water displacement), let it dry, inject some grease in there and duct tape it. does this sound like any semblance of a good idea? i don't know much about CV joints so i could be doing more harm than good. Thanks!

I would say squirt greese in there and use lots of duct tape.

Plan on already replacing the cv shaft.

Since you had more information in this post (you said it was quite dirty in the boot), I wouldn't bother trying to clean it (water won't do anything to get grease out anyways... you'd have to use varsol or something like that to do it right.) If you do try to clean it out with varsol, make sure you get all the varsol out (air compressor will help) and let it dry thoroughly before putting new grease in. I suppose you could try adding more grease to it and duct taping it for now, but if it was me, I'd be rebuilding now if the joint is still good.
