Chris,
As far as overcooling the engine, I think that it would be a PITA in the winter mostly. The Taurus fan fits the 3.0 radiator like it was made for it. I have had two of the Imperial (Hayden) fans. The first one just died one day that I was on a traffic jammed freeway offramp. I happened to notice the temp gauge after hearing my valves clattering, and had nowhere to stop, and was forced to drive with the coolant boiling. I was so lucky that I didn't clow the head gasket! And it wasn't all that hot out either. The second fan I installed was the same~ 16" model one. I was out wheeling at Evans Creek a couple months back, and I had to keep stopping to cool the rig down even while running the heater! The WATTORA/4ROC run to North Bend was the last straw. It was like 102* out there, and I was holding up the group as we headed up the mountain since I had to keep stopping. I was baking in my truck with the heater on, and the fan just couldn't keep up. It was partly because of the lack of a big enough shroud, and not enough CFM's being pulled through the radiator. After that, I started looking on the PBB, and found the Taurus fan info. I think that it is imperative that the 3.0 V6's remain as cool as possible. I have gone wheeling with the A/C cranked up and the Taurus fan has been the best mod I have done since the rear Lock Right! Just make sure to stay away from the adjustable fan controllers Imperial/Hayden part #3647 since they just suck! I have cooked 2 of them already just since the Taurus fan install.

That's one of the things that's mainly got me worried about switching fans, is the head gasket. Having just done the recall, I'm expecting to get another 100k miles at least out of this rig. I'm not that overly worried about it, but better safe than sorry. I guess tomorrow I'll be calling around to see who's got a Taurus fan.

Not to mention the fact that I just upgraded to the 140 amp alternator from Mr. Alternator, I'm confident it would be able to handle the extra juice. One thing I'm still iffy about concerning the alternator is whether or not to add the additional 8 guage wire from the alt to the battery. WATRD said this was safe but all it takes is one slip-up... plus he has a 3.4, not a 3.0. I guess I'll just wire it up and see what happens. If it works, I'll be able to run that fan on high if I want (not that I think I'd ever need it) .

Chris,
Mycotopian ordered a Taurus fan from a local boneyard here in WA for like $35. I think that it was a great deal even though I got mine there for $30. Look at the "Taurus fan prices going up?" thread for the info that I gave him, as there is a 1-800 number- just in case you have trouble locating one.
