Sudden loss of power
My 4runner has been having random losses of throttle on the highway only after the car has been driven for around 10 miles. I am just driving down the highway with my foot on the gas and it suddenly feels like I took my foot off the gas for like 3 seconds. It does this many more times after it happens the first time. The thing is that when I put my car on cruse control the problem goes away. The same goes for when I floor it. Has anyone else had this problem or can give me any idea what could be causing this. Since the check engine light isn’t on I really don’t want to bring it to the dealer.

One more thing I forgot to mention is that ever since this first started happening my fuel gauge hasn't been reading correctly. Sometimes it will read empty even though I still have 6 gallons left in the tank. Maybe these problems are connected somehow.

I'll take a stab at guessing: Sounds like your throttle position sensor. There are ways to test it!!!
Find out which spots to "short" on your ecu test connector and see if the test engine light blinks. Roger Brown's site (www.4crawler.com) has some info on testing the reisitance of the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor).
