Struts or Shocks

Guys I'm sorry to bore you with this probably stupid question. I'm running a 97 4x4, am I running struts in the front and shocks in the back? Or are they all shocks?

Thanks guys

You are correct, struts in front, shocks in the rear

a strut is basically just a shock with an extra mount on it and a spring wrapped around it... mechanically the strut and shock are similar, but dont get them confused

Actually, they are coil-over shocks in front. A strut provides the upper locating mount for the hub/ spindle in a given application.

The upper A-arm on these 4Runners/ trucks provides the upper locating attachment point for the hub.

The coil-over shocks don't perform a hub/ spindle locating function. So they aren't struts.

If that is true or not, I cannot comment on, but most stores will call coil-overs struts (for simplicity). Only if you go to a speciality store that knows their stuff, then they call it a coil-over

When I ordered mine on line, they were all listed as shocks.
