I tried piggybacking on another Speed Sensor thread, and being impatient thought I may have better luck starting new thread. Plus, I have additional questions

I have a 98 taco prerunner that I'm converting to 4WD - The donor tranny and tcase came out of a 99 4Runner. The 4Runner tcase had a plug where one would find a VSS on the passenger side ass end of the tcase. I obtained a VSS from an 04 Taco tcase and swapped out the plug for the VSS. After putting the truck all back together, I did not have a functioning Speedo and a CE - pulled a P0500 OBDII code. The person I sold the 04 tcase to let me borrow back the tcase which I bolted onto the 99 tranny (A430F). I used the same VSS in the 04 tcase that I was using in the 99 4Runner tcase and when driven, the speedo now functions and the CE is gone.

So, apparently there are some internal differences between the 99 4Runner tcase and the 04 taco tcase. Hopefully just limited to the rear output shaft drive gear.

When looking at a FSM for the pre-05 gen Tacos HERE I see mention of a 'Vehicle Speed Sensor Drive Gear'. I'm guessing that the 4Runner output shaft does not have this drive gear. Can anyone confirm that?

Is there on the 'net an FSM for the 99 4Runner? - (Bear with me, I'm new to this forum - I know the pat answer is to search - so I will)

In researching Toyota parts, I ran across and found differences between the various A340 series transmissions. How are the various transfer cases labeled? I am only curious about the tcases that came with the A340 series transmissions....

Are the tcases for the 4Runners identified differently than the tcases that came on Tacoma's? Does anyone have a part number for the Speed Sensor Drive Gear?

Obtained a 32t VSS gear from a helpful TTORA member. Upon swapping in that gear for my 30t gear I got the speedo to function. As to how accurate it is??? No tach, 285/75R15 tires, 4.88 gears, no GPS...
