So I picked up a little road debris today...

What do you think?

1. It can be patched.
2. Buy a new replacement tire.
3. Try to find a used replacement tire.
4. Buy a new set of Revos which includes a $50 mail-in rebate.

The tire was flat in about 5 minutes so it made a pretty good size hole. These tires have about 36K miles on them but still have plenty of tread left. They are beginning to dry rot a little but it's nothing extreme.

Thanks for the input.

What a hole what a hole!

That's why I like warantee's from America's Tire Co. They'll replace something like that.

That will easily be fixed with a plug. The hole is nowhere near where it would affect the integrity of the tire. Or you can run out and get all 4 new tires, as the idealists any second will jump in with lessons on proper patching techniques and tales on how dangerous plugging is.

I had 2 slow leaking Dunschlops from the factory. The first tire to get a flat was plugged and still is holding up better than the crap that came on them. By 28,000 miles I should have to be replacing them already.
I have to fill it up evey week or so to keep my 43 lbs in it.

I had the same thing happen to my work truck last week.
I went and got a new tire for $550, but that's alot easier when you're spending company money

You still have alot of tread left, but Revos would sure make you alot happier

The Ford and Chevy trucks in my place of employment run 100-120 p.s.i. Imagine a blow out with one of those?

that hole is too big as it is a captive nail, meaning it has its own washer type thing on it... its well over what any tire tire should legally fix as per set standards set forth by DOT and the RMA

if it matters, i am a tire techincian employed in the tire industry at a repair/installation facility/shop

i would not fix that due to policy and liability

Talking

no reason to blow money on whole new tires if the old ones are still ok (and can be patched)

Spend money on new set of nicer bigger tires and make money on selling old ones as spares.
or Spend money to repair big a$$ hole and see it blow out doing 60 mph flipping your rig 14 times totaling it.
hmmm I say new tires still.

judging by the size of that nail, it is at least 1/4" at the washer width that went through..... our company www.wheelworks.org as well as morgan tire and auto will not reapir the above pictured tire due to policy and liability

here is some info

its not that big, just superglue it. j/k. Why not use your spare for a while until your other tires wear out and youre ready to purchase a new set.
