Diesels engines respond so well to boost due to the fact that pre-ignition (aka, uncontrollable knock) is basically a non-issue for them. It is the equivalent to a gas engine on E85 or race gas.

Also adding a turbo giving a % increase in power is a bit misleading. I could make the same turbo give anywhere from a 10% increase in power to a 200%+ increase in power. Besides that everything else is pretty much correct.

I do want to clarify that adding a turbo is different then changing the VE of the engine even if they both may net you the same power gains (there you are correct). As you said the turbo simply makes the air denser so you get more oxygen with each intake stroke.

You are not actually force feeding the engine as many think with a turbo since the backpressure from the turbine equals out the positive boost from the compressor. The engine still acts more or less like an NA engine when it comes to VE/flow.

It is actually pretty hard to get better then a 1:1 boost to backpressure ratio without going to a massive laggy turbo setup.

The tailpipe sniffer came out of the exhaust halfway though the pull so thus it was not able to get a reading lol.
