running boards
just wondering what everyone's boner is about w/ removing the running boards on our trucks? i see it in almost every thread that someone posts some pics in. lots of people dont wheel and imho the truck looks good either w/ em or w/o em. i have mine on half the time, and honestly i think our trucks dont look that great w/ the running boards off. the underbelly (gas tank etc.) hang down so low, it looks like we have a huge body lift on already. add an actual BL and it just gets worse.
more clearance, yes. should everyone be ragged on to do it? ...

Is this a rant?
its all about personal opinion/taste. I personally don't like them, for the most part, when i had them on, i never used them, it was just somthing that got in the way for my legs/and trail obstacles. If you like yours on leave them, thats what they are for.
i personally took mine off because i didn't like them, and also in hopes to get some sliders!

yeah its just a rant, and i respect everyones personal tastes. just seems like lots of folks make it out to be that you need em off asap. i know they can be functional, but they can also be the lowest hanging, biggest p.i.t.a. things on earth.

Still don't get people that don't wheel, why they're here? Especially if you've got a lift and the gray wire mod? Is it the same concept as the 95HP Civics with an Formula 1 rear wing?

it comes down to the ultimate question:
Q: why lift your truck?
A: so can put on bigger tires
Q: why big tires
A: so i get better ground clearance, or look like a street queen
running boards kill your ground clearance, period.
seriously, i took them off because my gf loves them running boards. plus, i sold mine for $150 on craig's list

I left mine on i like the way it looks. Plus i dont wheel it much its basically stock anyway, small lift,BFG A/Ts. When i go hunting they are usefull for keeping the mud from flying all up on the side and getting all over my hunting stuff as get in and out. Plus my paint is in really good shape around the rockers from shiit not flying up on it them.

I purchased my 4Runner on May 15, 2000 brand new from the dealer. On May 16, 2000....I removed the running boards and sold them on Ebay. Mine was for the same reasons already posted. I also sold my stock 5-spoke 16x7 wheels on there as well.

Once must also realize that YotaTech has always been open to both 2WD and 4WD trucks and SUVs.
This means the gnarliest off road rig, to the lowrider that scrapes its belly over a dime in a parking lot.
While it is true that 4WDs far outnumber the 2WDs here, all are welcome.

I still have my running boards because I use them as steps to get into the 4Runner (my short friends appreciate it). I use them for accessing things on the roof rack. I also think they offer a bit of protection from gravel. My 4Runner serves many purposes (why I bought it) and I find the running boards are pretty useful.
I'm lifted and do light wheeling. If I get into hairy adventures, I might have to considering changing them out, but for now they are staying.

Secondly, I have not read that statement from the "owner of the forum", but I have read the slogan, "The Off-Road Adventure begins here", on every single page of the forum---scroll to the very top of this page, you'll see it there, too. So, perhaps, the slogan, or the phrase used to describe this site, is worded wrong. Hence, the owner is not only disagreeing with me, but with himself (if he's the creator of that).
Lastly, I respect people for whatever their fancy is, but I am not in any shape or form, interested in what thug life has to offer. Fo' rizz-o. That's why I come here, instead of CT and other sites like them. On the same note, I don't go on Jeep or Dodge forums and rant about Toyota's, either. Just confuses me when these odd threads pop up.
