Runaway throttle

Runaway throttle
I went to start up my tacoma yesterday (it hadn't been started in about 3-4 weeks) and it started no problem. However, when I backed out of my parking space and gave it some gas to get up a little hill, the throttle just took off to about 5000 RPM. I tried revving it a few times to see if it would go down, but nothing. So, I shut it off and tried starting it again, same thing, it just took off. I popped the hood and noticed some slack in the linkage to the throttle body, plus I had noticed that the gas pedal was feeling really stiff when I first started it. If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix it or what might be the problem, I'd appreciate it.

Almost sounds like those incidents on the news where the people were driving and their tacomas would just take off. They all ended in accidents though because the people weren't smart enough to remove the keys.

Remove the throttle cable and move the throttle arm on the throttle body by hand. Does it spring back? If not, problem is with the TB. If it does, problem is with the cable.

sure does, as those cases sounded pretty scary, mainly b/c the people weren't smart enough to turn off the engine...but definitely check out that cable and throttle body...
