This is what I do when I carry my canoe, I still run a bowline to counteract the wind force pushing up on the front of the canoe.

I just roll down my rear window, put one of the seats down, and slide it right in!

Before i knew better (before yotatech) i put a 8ft wooden dingy on my rack. Saw it in a pile of boats the sheriff had pulled out of the river and i asked if i could have it. They said i could but i had to take it today or they were going to burn it. So my only choice was to get some friends and lift it onto the roof rack. Later during restoration of the boat i found it weighed 265lbs.

And this was on a 1st gen with a gutter mounted rack mounted to my fiberglass shell gutters

I was very lucky nothing broke!!! But i only had to drive a mile or so.

I normally at least wear a pair of shorts
Anyhow, I either put the board inside or on the top on a Thule surfboard rack, bare.
