reverse lights on 2nd gen.

I was wonderng if there is any way to clean the reverse lights on a 2nd gen. I recently got clear taillights and the yellowness of the reverse lights is very imminent now. I tried to take the lens off but I couldn't remove the lens from the gray plastic housing. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. If not where might I find new ones for a reasonable price? Thanks for all the help and I will be posting pics soon.

Hmm. They do make hyperwhite reverse bulbs. You may try a pair of those. I hear they give off a very bright white light.

I'm more worried about the color of the housing when the lights are not off....not the color of the bulb when they are on. Thanks though...just thought maybe I needed to clear that up.

You might try to take out the bulbs and use the end of a hangar with a terry cloth towel folded overtop of it. Wedge that in the holes try to rub the inner side of the lens. If they are dirty, that will clean them. It would also help to spray the cloth with some glass cleaner.

Hey Runninclean that's a nice looking Runner you've got! I think Jason hit the only way your'e going to get into them lenses. I recently got a some moisture out of my headlight using the same method. I've got some pics of a Chrome Westin grill guard on mine if you wanna take a look and see what it will look like on your truck. Mine's a 94 Here's the link Grill Gaurd
Where did you get your Indiglo's at? I got some off Ebay and am installing them tomorow. PM me if you got the same ones. Curious how the install went. Thanks

Re: reverse lights on 2nd gen.

I had the same problem when I got my clear tails. Somebody told me to try buffing out the color with an orbital buffer & some wax. I never got around to it, but I think it would help.

The real solution would be to get new reverse light housings so that everything matches.

I read one time about someone that heated the lights on their Supra and then was able to pry the lens off the housing. I took that idea and try to the red part of the tails to put on my clears for CA legality when I had my 2nd Gen (unfortunately the house on the clears was a wee bit too small). Anyway, with that idea, I imagine it will work with the reverse lights too.

You simply turn on the oven and pre-heat to say 300 F. Then pop one of the lights in and watch it (do not let it go, otherwise you will bake the plastic). Say in about a minute or two minutes, pull out the light (watch it caz it will be hot). Immediately, use a flat-head screwdriver and pry the lens off the housing (becareful when you do this so that you don't break the lens). Clean as you like, and then pre-heat the lens and the housing again for a little bit. Squeeze the two together again, cool and put it back in the Runner.

Like I said though, watch the lens as you are cooking others you might end up with bake bubbles like this pic of my clears

There are 2 different ways Ive tried and that is one to get some FINE sandpaper and wet sand them then wax. The other is take both screws out and remove lights and spray degreaser on them and watch the yellow sludge slide right off, rinse, dry and wax. Ive degreased them severeral times and itdidnt not hurt them. Clean as they can be and not faded. I wouldnt get it on any paint though be surr e to remove them.
