First off i have a 99 4runner, 3.4, 4x4.

This weekend i finally got around to lifting it with OME/OME in rear and TRD tundra setup up front. I had no problems with anything but today i discovered a new tick/click sound when i start to accelerate any ideas?

pics would be nice to see. As far as the clicks/ticks you are hearing, maby it is just the sound of being new before everything breaks in, but maby another person would no better.

no pics until i get my rear quarter panel fixed, rain + bare all terrains+ concrete divider= State Farm

I do know that i have a loose rear u joint.

Make sure all your bolts are tight, the smallest play can cause noise

I've missed one bolt before and it played havoc untill I figured it out


try greasing the u-joint too, see if it gets quiet

I think it is a rear u joint, and as far as making sure all bolts are tight i impacted everyone so i almost certain they are tight.

Retorque everything again after a couple of hundred miles, and the CV's as mentioned before. THough it sounds like once you get the rear u joint fixed that should do it...

If I was to guess and knowing that your ujoint is already bad, I'd say the slightly different angle of the rear driveshaft changed the position of the ujoint just enough so the wear pattern doesnt line up like it used to and now makes a clicking sound.

but that is 100% a complete guess

Did you do a front diff. drop, because if you didn't I would say check your cv's and see if they have to much of an angle on them.

ya i did a diff drop, also i didnt run into any problems cv's look good, front springs went right in with no problem and i dont have a need to extend any lines. i will be making my trac bar on saturday and then ill be finished for now.

i just lifted my 4runner two days ago with tundra up front and land cruiser rears using bilstiens all around. i also put on a 1 inch body lift and sitting on 35's. i am having the same problem clicking only occurs when slowly accelerating and maintaning same speed. i also noticed slight click as coming to a stop. to me it sounds like a u joint issue. does anybody know if greasing will take car of the problem? i also noticed a vibration while accelerating at any speed and everything goes away while just coasting.

At the front of your rear drive shaft, grease the hard to see zerk that is between the ujoints on your double cv. look hard its there. noise will go away. Had to do this about a week after putting 3" lift on my 01 runner. good luck.
