Is the rear dome light supposed to come on when the rear hatch is open? 97 4runner
When I open the rear hatch on my 97 4runner sr5, the rear dome light does not come on when the switch is in the "door" position.. It only works whenever it is in the "on" position.. Wheres the door trigger switch? Could this be causing my security system not to work properly because it does not recognize the door? Any help would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks

yes, it's supposed to come on. The "switch" is part of the latch mechanism. You might try lubricating it. Dirt/dust can keep it from fully unlatching causing the light to not come on. Also, check to see if your bulb is seated properly.

well, if you make sure you close all of your other doors and open your tailgate you can check this out.
take a screwdriver, and when the tailgate is raised, use the screwdriver to close the latch all the way. my light goes out when i close the latch completely.
to open the latch again, just pull on the handle to disengage the latch.
cliffs:
close all doors
open rear tailgate
make sure light is on "door"
close latch with screwdriver
if the light goes off then you should be fine. if it does not then you may need to replace a switch inside.
i have never done this with a 4runner, but i am sure someone else could help
