Question about Supercharger on 3.4L
I found a truck with the TRD supercharger installed on it for sale. If installed correctly will the TRD kit still have piniging problems? I'm sure it has the 7th injectors installed. Do they always have problems unless heavily tweaked afterward?
I don't know much about the SC 3.4L

It all depends on where you are at (altitude), year, and gas.
Some ping, some dont.
The best advice I can give you is go to gadgets website www.gadgetonline.com

Alabama, so maybe 1,500 above sea level at times. Its a 2001 truck and we have good ole 93 octane here.

It may not ping too bad. Bamachem installed one on his and hasn't had much pinging(unless he has since last I read his post) and he's in Birmingham. If it has the 7th injector kit then it should not ping. That was TRD's band-aid try at fixing the problem. I would be more worried about the transmission than anything. Is it an auto?
Also, where in Bama are you? I'm guessing north part if you are 1500 ft above sea level.

I live around Fort Payne Al , which is about 95 miles North of Birmingham. Fort Payne is just a little above sea level like Birmingham, but I live on the Mountain and it's about 1,500 ft higher than the valley.
I was aware of the tranny problems and I knew if I got this truck it would be something to address w/ a Cooler and valve body upgrade.

I have a 99 and put one on and ONLY had pinging w/ 87 octane and when I put on a 2.2" pulley. I put the regular pulley back on and it went away again. I went ahead and put in Denso 5042 plugs and a Hayden transmission cooler to be on the safe side. I wasn't wanting to make it "faster" but I was wanting more torque to more easily pull hills with the 33's on there. I got that plus some.
In all, I'd say it's definitely a plus.

I think there will always be some pinging, but determining what is normal ping and dangerous ping is the hard part (at least to me). Any pinging is worth it, however, because the supercharger is so fun :-)

Did you install just the standard TRD kit w/ 7th injector or did you go w/ Gadgets kit? I'm definitly not expecting a race truck, but If I ever do get a 4wd TRD then it would be nice to have the extra power to pull some larger tires.
Going from a 500 h.p. Dakota to a 150 h.p. 2.7L Tacoma is HARD to swallow... especially since I don 't even have 4x4. Having 250 h.p. from the 3.4L sure must be nice.
BTW... the owner of the truck wrote me back and said that his truck does not have the low rpm ping. He also uses 93 octane. He installed the SC at 8,000 and has had it on ever since.

K&N Gen2 (They work well on the Dakotas
MSD Digital 6 plus, MSD wires, NGK plugs- 1 step colder

The truck also came stock w/ 3.92 gears.
3800lb Truck ran 12.2@110 spinning badly on 28x10.5 Hoosier slicks WITHOUT The heads.
150 h.p. just ain't cuttin it. I had that much in the bed of my Dakota!

Most folks just do the tranny cooler and are done with it. But, it definitely wouldn't hurt to do a VB upgrade.
I don't think BamaChem is using the 7th injector or the URD kit. I guess he's saying that with the normal pulley and 93 octane he has no pinging. That's good to hear.

Neither. I got my SC as a Dealer Trade-In takeoff w/ 8k miles. It came w/ the smaller pulleys and the 7th injector. The 7th injector adds fuel to prevent top end lean-out conditions for high speed and it adds a timing map retarder to reduce or eliminate pinging for high-gear / low-rpm cruising speeds like on the interestate. My engine NEVER sees over 4k so the 7th injector wasn't needed, so I put it up for sale and bought a TMC1.1 off of ebay to retard the timing. Once I changed to 93 octane, I didn't have any more ping, so I never needed to install that either. It's for sale if you're interested later, but w/ the 7th inj kit, it isn't necessary. I went ahead and did the cooler plugs as insurance, but now I've lost some MPG's since the swap and I'm considering going back to the regular NGK plugs.

It must be nice to have 93 octane there, we only have 91 in SLC.
If you do ping, one way to fix it is to install a TMC 1.1. I have a writeup on my website. Mine has not ping'ed once since I installed it.

If so, you could get more power from a stock 3.4
