When you have a snorkel on your car, can you still wash it like how you normally do. what about driving in the rain, would water not get in your engine and mess everything up? sorry for the seeming dumb question, for i am young, and still learning

Nope a good question.. It is pretty good in the rain, The head is larger and narrowes down where it clamps on. There is also 4 slots to drain at that "bottle neck" The tube is also about 3" higher than the clamp.. What is supposed to happen is the rain while driving hits the back of the head and runs out those slots.. It would have to build up 3" to go over the tube. No in very heavy rain and driving all day (I do that often ) the bottom of the filter has a little water in it, But then again that may be normal, I have never looked while it was raining to see if the bottom of my housing was wet.. (wanna look sometime and let me know) I also had no problems in heavy snow.. I did get a small build up above the intake tube at the air filetr, but it was in no way hampering the air filter in any way.. ( That was also noticed after a 50 mile highway drive)

As for washing, I try not to heavily douse the head, but what little gets in there will dry quick from the heat / air flow...

You could always do the plastic baggie & rubber band trick.. I do that at night if we are getting a heavy snow storm.. Just to keep it out of the tube

WOW! What make of snorkel and who fitted it? By the way - how's the bash plate coming? Had an email from a UK guy who was fab'ing up some sliders as well so at least we won't get left behind by our cousins overseas!

It was a Safari Snorkel the same as ours, fitted by the owner, he had put loads of duct tape around the rubber pipe to the air filter.

The Discovery was actually floating before some opened the rear door!!

For Doinks information - most people turn the top part of the snorkel around if they expect to be thrashing their way through alot of water. It is held on by a circlip so just loosen it and turn it round. It can also be replaced with a "cyclone" type air intake. Check out the Safari website for a cool mpeg of an Ozzie 4x4 crossing a river.

I have had that vid on my PC for a few years now.
It's a keeper.

I better use more duct tape on mine though if I don't want water causing it to fall off.

Wow - nice Vid! That driver was certainly confident - seatbelt on & sunroof closed. He did come within an inch or two of sinking the snorkel, though. As for the arm, it must be a British thing.

Corey, I hate to be critical, but dont you have your snorkel mounted backward? I thought the mouth piece went into the rig. Am I wrong?
Is that mounted that way for your spotter during water crossings? That would be VERY thoughtful.
