Hey brad,

I have to pull mine soon too. Do you have link to a thread with all the good stuff you learned?

Also, are you planning on rebuilding it yourself? I almost pee myself at the thought I was planning on going with a rebuild from Marlin Crawler.

Erich i'm sorry to say that i dont have a specific thread available. i've been reading and reading and searching and asking q's here.
the short answer is to search my screen name and there'll be the thread's that i've started.
i'm not planning to "rebuild" the tranny so much as to fix what's wrong. i'm PLANNING on replacing the clutch and all and input shaft bearing. BUT, i think i've also got deeper probs with first gear. hopefully it's just a shifting fork. by the way, the forks seem to escelate in price lol. the guy at the stealership said " well that tranny's got 3. ones 38 bucks, ones 52 bucks and the other is 68 bucks." lol

i plan on taking plenty of pics and posting a thread. i'm not very technically minded, so the thread might suck, but maybe someone can get an idea of what to look for in these tranny's.

thanx ya'll

Brad,

I found a couple of your threads. I will be very interested to hear what was wrong with your tranny when you have it repaired. I have so many probelms with mine that I just figured it would be cheaper in the long run to buy a rebuilt one.

Mine sounds like a helocopter in Neutral and all the gears except 4th are very loud, so loud that in the highway you can't talk at a normal level. I don't have mud tires or anything either. Also, probably the most irritating problem is that it shutters and learchs quite often. I have had friends tell me that its excess slop in my tranny but all I know that I feel like pulling over and shooting my rig when it does it.

I'll be driving in 2nd and speed up to 30mph, then just let off the gas, not remove my foot, but move to slow to 25mph, at that point it lurches and jumps like that commerical where the guy driving keeps tapping the breaks when his buddy is trying to sip his drink. I can either push on the gas and it stops or hit the breaks. Sometimes taking my foot off the gas stoppes it, but not always.

Here's four of them. First two are scans from an '85 FSM. Second two are from an EPC:

FSM1 463KB

FSM2 724KB

EPC1 128KB

EPC2 59KB

I can't leave these on my server long, so get them quick.

If you have them, I'm gonna delete them now. They put me well over my webpage size limit.

Hey Toy283,

I have a 89 4runner, in the last day or so its started to get noisy in 5th gear.

I wonder if you could re-post those FSM scans long enough for me to snag them?

or email them to me?

or maybe bamayote could?

Thanks!
this looks like a nice forum
