Finally as promised pics of my new 2000 limited the day I got it (3/21/2008) and my old 85 that I part traded on it. (I did ad the rack pads, trailer hitch light and license plate cover to it from my 85)

Today I took off the running boards, the rear wind deflector, the front hood bug shield, the roof rack, all badges, and trimmed the rear mud flaps. Will post pics when I wash it, was raining today.

Future plans (after tune up and timing belt), tint, match the bottom black, paint rims black, lift, stereo....not in that order.

All the above parts are for sale in the Seattle area and listed on Craig's List, sorry, no shipping.

you said you removed the rear spoiler right? I have been considering doing that too. So I guess my question is what or how are you going to fill the bolt holes? Weld-smooth-paint, or just put some bolts? in any case, post up more pics!

3rd gen looks nice . Definitely like the "blacked out" look of your '85 too. Looks clean.

You realize, you're gonna wish you had never parted with that '85. I sold my '86 back in Dec '04, and to this day, I wish I would have kept . At the time it seemed like a good idea, but live and learn. Hope you don't miss yours as much as I miss mine

Thanks guys! Ya, I loved the look of the 85 but it was a bit harsh for driveing in the city (most of my driving) and a bit underpowered for road trips. Don't worry, the 2000 will get the same treatment soon enough I didn't see a reason to keep both as I don't do any real wheeling, and the 85 was not built up anyways in that way.

As for removing the rear "spoiler", it was easy... 6 screws. What you're left with is brass (?) inserts that the shoulder of sticks out a bit. I filled the holes with silicone and painted the edge that sicks out with touch up. Looks fine.

your '85 looks like a way cleaner version of the one i'm picking up today! it's going to be nice to have the best of both worlds with 1st and 3rd gens.

can't wait to see pics of the new ride after you get to working on it some more. good job, and welcome to the 3rd gen family.

The 85 is gone, was part traded on the 00. Prolly could have gotten a few $ more selling it but the trade was convenient and quick.

I love the 00, smooth, quiet, leather, power, etc... and, I'm even digging the lazyness of the AT.

Its at the shop getting checked out/tuned up right now. If it stops raining I'll mount up my new Yakima rack, wash it and take some pics.

Anyways, new Runner looks very nice. I really like the paint combo. I have to say though, you owned one sicka$$, clean 85. WOW. Hope you don't miss it too much.

Haha....well, it is spring so it rains a bit. But hey, last year (or was it the year before?) we had 90 some days of consecutive sun!

And yes, I do miss it already but LOVING the 00! Just hope I don't move somewhere w/o rain b/c I will miss the removable top! 4drs is convenient though! Thanks for the props on the truck.....it was rough when I first got it.

That is a sweet looking 1st Gen. I've always had a thing for them and keep hoping that Toyota will bring back a convertible top rig back into their line-up. Really envy those Rubi's on sunny days.

What dealership did you trade it in at? What did they give you for it? Always nice to find a clean 1st gen, yeah I traded my 87 1st gen for a set of thermal windows in my house about two 1/2 years ago when I was having it sided. I do miss it.

not to hijack your thread but, how did you clear those rims with a solid axle on your 85?

I bought my 00 from a private seller and we got to talking and I mentioned I had an 85 that I will be now selling b/c I bought his rig, he said something about wanting a cheaper truck and I told him I'd sell it to him for less then its worth and what I'd advertise it for just to make it a quick sale (save me the time and hassle over listing and selling it). He said he'd take it....sight unseen. Long story short, $3,500. Had over $6k in receipts in it. Lesson learned, I think this is the last old car I dump $ into (ironically its the 1st one I lost $ on though but, all the others were 50s and 60s classics).

As for the rims, you will need to hog out the center hole just a hair to clear the manual hubs then get 1" wheel spacers or bigger if you want bigger tires (like i was going to run but never did, so i had 1.5" spacers) to clear the idle arm, tie rod or whatever that thing is rubbing on the rim. You could possibly just take a grinder to the rim too and be fine but, in the rear the tires clear the rear leaf by like less then 1/4" w/o spacers with the stock 265/70 tires so.... Need spacers.

Quick update, got her all up to date on maintenance (never had any tune ups till yesterday when I had the first one done at 99k!).

Heres the list:
Plugs
Air/fuel filter
T-belt, H2o pump, all seals
Frt brake pads/rotors
Trans service
Brake system flushed
Radiator flushed
PS flushed
Both diffs and transfer case serviced/new fluid
Everything torqued and greased.

I also took off the running boards, the front bug deflector, rear wind deflector, trimmed rear mudflaps, took off OEM roof rack, took all emblems off.

How it sits now till paint, tint, lift, tires, etc...
