Philips Blue Visions

Guys,

I installed Philips Blue Visions last weekend after taking a fog filled drive up north to the SF Bay Area. I previously had PIAA Superwhites (or whatever they are called) which are above average in clear night time conditions but not so great in rainy or light fog/night time conditions.

The Blue Vision's beam appears to go out a little farther but are not as white. That is ok.

Hopefully it will rain sometime soon in LA (yeah, right) so I can see if they do better than the PIAAs.

So overall, I would say that the Philips bulbs are about a step better than my old PIAAs.

I got the Phillips, Cool Blues (same thing, mine are over 2 years old) I think they changed the name. I like the whiteness over stock. They seem to last long and look good. They are cleaner/brighter, but in rain... not very good. I guess there's a compromise. Not bad, not great.

I got some of the Sylvania bulbs liek this at Advance Auto $15 ea. I was impressed at how well they did in fog and rain, much better than the stock ones.

Philips "Vision Plus" and Osram Silverstar(not to be confused with US Sylvania Silverstar bulbs) are the best and brightess Halogen bulbs available right now. They are available at autolamps.com and powerbulbs.com. Both are located in England but offer free shipping. Save your money and stop buying cheap "colored" bulbs that actually have less lumens and put out less light. PIAA "superwhites" actually put out 10% "less" light over a stock bulb where the Philips Vision Plus and Osram Silverstars put out up to 50% "more" light.

Just thought I would throw this out at you guys. If you need more info on bulbs let me know.

Guys,

As pfdaxe said, there is a definite difference in light output. However the "50% more light" that it puts out translates to about 3-5 more feet in my estimation. Like I said, I can tell the beam reaches out a little farther.

I hope that it does better in the rain/light fog, but according to butnut, this is not the case. Well at the very least, I hope it does better than my PIAAs.

If that doesn't work, I'll try the Sylvanias that Bob K has.

I got mine at powerbulbs.com. It came out to a little over $30 with shipping and they included side marker lights which I have not put on. I don't think it'll make much of a difference in my OEM corners but I'll put them on at some point in time.

I got my Philips Blue Vision bulbs that I was using from powerbulbs.com They are a good bit whiter than stock but they just didn't look right with my HID kit (too yellow looking). That's why I ordered the Raybrig White Sonics. The Raybrigs are a REALLY white light for a halogen bulb. I was pleasantly surprised. I do agree that they produce less usable light, but oh well, can't ask for it all.
