Mine started to stall a bit when I pulled the pcv line, but as soon as I started pouring the seafoam in, the engine was ok. So if you can have someone pull out the line, and you can start pouring it in quickly afterward(but slow on the liquid so you don't hydrolock) this might work.

Joe-
My engine dies the minute the hose comes off - I'll have to pull on the throttle and find that magic spot when I do mine.

Thanks guys!

The reason it stalls at idle is the loss of vacum. So opening the throttle a little will help the stalling but, you will be pulling even more vacum so it will suck the seafoam faster. The reason it doesn't stall when you startputting in the seafoam is because the liquid provides enough resistance to maintain the normal amount of vacum.

AIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!

I go to NAPA and buy a new grommet.
I go home and go to work on the PCV.
I use a mini prybar and break off parts of the grommet (which are as hard as PVC now).
And the stupid thing STILL won't come out!

I can push the stupid thing in but I can't pull it out no matter what I try.
I would take it to Toyota by now but I can't get it out of the driveway because the vaccuum leak makes me stall out :pat:

Maybe I should just SHOOT the damned thing out!

Keep at it. It took myself and my Toyota Mech friend almost 2 hours and alot of blood sweat and beers to get the darn thing out.

Can you get at it from below?
If you can I'm thinking maybe I'll just remove the rocker arm cover and take it out there. The stupid thing will push in...

Stupid PCV...
It's the grommet that's the problem. In the 150K miles this thing has seen I don't think it's ever been replaced.

Every single item on here that's been replaced is an aftermarket part.
This PCV says Toyota on it. Enough for me to believe that this grommet has never been changed out and when I say it's as hard as PVC, I mean it - it's like really hard plastic now

No you can't get at it from below. There is a shield under it inside the valve cover, that keeps it from sucking oil up into it. I know what you mean about it being as hard as pvc. Like I said it took me and a Toy Mech almost 2 hours to get it out. We put a screwdriver under a pair of vice grips and pushed and pulled and it finally poped out.

Okay... FINALLY got the stupid thing out.

I got a good enough vaccuum seal to get to a Firestone service shop and asked the guy about the PCV and he was like, "that little thing??? Bring it by over the week and I'll see if I can take care of it. Did you try some WD40?"

Well, I went home ate a late lunch and thought about the WD40. Don't know why I didn't think about using some kind of lubricant.

Spritzed and said "Goddamned stupid freaking PCV" quite a few times and FINALLY popped the stupid thing out!!!

*Sigh*
I feel so content now

Dumb question here. The pvc is in the plastic 90 degree bend? The replacement I got is a straight piece of metal. I popped out the bend easy enough but would be damned if I could get the metal out of the plastic, if it even should. Thanks!

Dunno what the '01 runner PCV looks like.
Mine is just a straight valve.
