Parking/Hand Brake Problem... I think

Hi all,

I recently noticed a problem with my brakes.
When I took my car out for a drive after work a couple
of days ago, I felt that the car was braking a bit.
I can usually roll out my driveway in neutral, but now it won't roll.
Same thing when I put it in 1st gear I can feel the car stress as it pulls out.
It's like when you want to drive and forget to disengage the
parking/hand brake.
When I checked the parking/hand brake lever I noticed that it was loose.

Please let me know how to fix this...

thanks,

maguirre

Have you taken a look at your ebrake cable and made sure it's not bound up and sticking?

It's could be your parking brake bellcranks that are sticking. That's pretty common. They're located right behind your rear brake backing plates. Crawl under there are see if they move freely. If not, take them apart, clean and grease them up, and put them back together.

thank for all your replies,

I'll check it out once I get some time.
I heard that the rear drums self adjust when backing up in this model
of 4runner, and maybe the overadjusted.
Can anyone spand on this, since I wasn't aware of this.

TIA,

You can't overadjust them using the "reverse and pull brake lever" method.

The "reverse and pull brake lever" method.
Please explain what this is... I never heard of it.
Is this for all 4runners with drums in the rear??
