overheating problem
my 22re has been overheating a lil. i changed out the clutch fan which was broken. i thought all was good but my dad said it went up to 3/4 on the guage today. hes said it was while he was on the freeway. same thing happend before the clutch fan, only on the freeway the temps would rise. on the streets its fine and holds steady at 1/4 of the gauge. im thinking T-stat might be faulty, cuz my mechanic that installed the rebuilt engine told me he had installed a new one.

Ever consider and electric fan mod? Just a guess here but if the mechanic installed a thermostat that opens too wide the coolant won't stay in the radiator long enough to actually get cooled down. I know it's reachin', but it doesn't sound like you have a blockage if you aren't overheating in town.

Did he put in a factory T-stat or a mickeymouse one ?You could always pull it out and test drive it w/o the tstat.Or pull over when it's running hot and feel(carefully)the hoses. They both should be about the same temp,if one's way colder than the other then you know it's sticking.

Try running it by a radiator shop and have them pop the cap and run a tube probe down the tubes right below your cap. This will tell you if your radiator is getting clogged and needs to be rodded out. I did this with the radiator in my 87, it was only about a year old but after they rodded the core my overheating problems went away. I think they charged about $65, I pulled and replaced the radiator.
