OME suspension installed, pics...
Hey everyone,
Long time reader, first time poster. This is yet another testimate to what can be accomplished by someone with very little mechanical experience or knowledge just using the search button of this forum.
I bought the complete Old Man Emu setup from Slee Offroad a couple weeks ago and decided to install it myself (mainly because Slee charges $380). I ended up getting 3 inches in the rear and 2.5 in the front which was expected because the rear was beginning to sag a little. The whole process took me about 9 hours over the course of the weekend including having the front struts assembled by the guys down at Slee and periodically running inside to see the score of the Broncos game. As a side note, the guys at Slee are awesome and they defintely have my recommendation.
Here are a couple pictures. I forgot to take an actual "before" picture, but I got one with just the front installed to show the difference.

Couple of notes about the install...
1. Getting the back coils in place was much more difficult than I thought. After struggling with a crowbar for about 30 minutes I gave up and decided to rent some external coil compressors from Checker. This made things much easier.
2. It was my understanding that since OME is an Australian company, the passenger's side is labeled "A" and the driver's side is labeled "B" for American vehicles. I did find a thread saying that they started switching the labels for American applications and I believe this was the case for me. The rear (890) coil labeled "A" was clearly taller than the other one. Just something to be aware of.
That's it, the rest was pretty straight forward thanks to posts like this one from Foxtrot. Thanks for all the info!

Truck looks great......those springs should settle about 1/2" all around over time.
BTW, what combo exactly did you put on there? Springs? Shocks? Spacers? other?
.....it just helps others later when they see your pics and want to follow suit.

When we did bflooks lift, we just removed the two lower shock bolts and the panhard bar (since it was getting lowered anyway) and it dropped enough that we just sat the springs in there and jacked it back up.

Thanks, the ride isn't as stiff as I expected. From what I read, I was expecting to feel every little bump on the road but this is definitely not the case. I haven't taken it above 60 mph yet but I have not noticed any difference in high speed stability. My old suspension was more or less shot so making corners at higher speeds now is a pleasure.

Are OME882's just another part number? I know they are HD springs better than 881's but when i look on wheelersoffroad site they say they are for the tacoma and they don't even list them for the 4runner. Can i just order OME882's using the tacoma shopping section and replace my 881's?
I'm running a TJM T15, with a Warn M8000 and aux lights and i have the 881's with daystar 1 1/4" spacers and it's still too low in the front. I'm thinking i need the 882's with the spacers to make it level.

I do not think that the 882's are "HD springs better than 881's". I am pretty sure they are the same rate as 881's but are taller so that you can use them on 4Runners that are equipped with a TJM and winch.

You're right they aren't "heavy duty", not sure where I got that from. Too much reading tonite. I just want to know if i can order them from the tacoma shopping section and they will fit over my existing OME shocks already on my 4runner.

Yes, an OME 882 can go on a 4runner or a Tacoma and it's the same part. Also yes, they are the same spring rate, the 882 just has a higher initial height (a few people have reported a fair amount of sag using them, often 881s with larger spacers or Tundra coils will work better).

Ben at Slee Offroad informed me that they usually sell the 882's to V6 4Runners so I assume they are a bit more heavy duty than the 881's. I believe they only sell 882's to Tacomas.

880's are designed for 1.75" lift 0-110 front load
881's are designed for 1.75" lift 110-220 front load
For 4Runner
880's are designed for 1.25" lift 0-110 front load
881's are designed for 1.25" lift 110-240 front load
882's are not even in the OME tacoma/4runner catalog..
A freind of mine has 882's on his 95 with a ARB bumper and winch, and they are SUPER SILLY STIFF.. Me at 215 lbs can barely bounce his front end....

Interesting because my 881's are stupid soft with the winch and the bumper installed. (I'm also a V6) When i brake I get a lot of nose dive. Same when I accelerate, the front end rises. Is your friend 4cyl or V6?
