OEM radio swap question.... Need fast answer!

Question for you guys. I have a 2001 sr5 runner and I'm looking for a OEM stereo. I have someone that has offered me a 1999 OEM stereo for it but I'm not sure if the 1999 is compatible with the 2001.

This is the one he's offering me. The plugs look the same. Anyone know if it would work????

I need to let the guy know something SOON so a fast reply would be greatly appreciated!

I would say if the plugs look the same it SHOULD work. If not, get the pinouts for both vehicles and make your own adapter harness.

$10 + shipping. And I just found a picture of the back of mine and I think the plugs are different.

the flat face on that stereo looks like it is from a third gen rig. if that is the case, the plugs won't work.

Yeah I got it from 4runner202020 but and I'm trying to catch him before he ships it but his PMs are full now. I sent him an email. Hopefully he will get it before it ships.

your best bet would be to just find one out of an '01 toy. it would be too much trouble to go through trying to make a different model work just for a stock stereo. on top of all that, you still need to figure out if that stereo has a built in amp or not , four or two speaker system, power ant. feature, so on and so fourth , just not worth the headache! BTW, why the rush, is it just to catch him b-4 he ships it out or do you just need one right -a-way???

It will work just fine. Will bolt in place of your original and plug right in. If your factory system doesn't have a small amp then your going to need that to make this one work. I'm fairly certain all the 4runner with tweeters have the amp behind the radio.

count the pins on it and see if it has an amp (as mentioned above). that is the only way to be sure that it will work because there are different setups in the back despite what the face looks like (that's what she said)
