OEM Brakes
I have a 1999 Tacoma Pre-Runner TRD. When I bought it in 2001 the brakes were beyond good, you tapped the pedal and you were stopped. I learned that the truck has 4 piston calipers up front. I assumed that the TRD package also put better pads. However, the dealer didn't think so (but what do they know).
At 75,000 the dealer put standard Tacoma pads on the truck. This replaced the original. The dealer said its what I had before. However, my braking is horrible. I have to stomp on the pedal at times and then it feels like I am skating on ice...no good gripping.
Do TRD Tacomas have different pads?

Well Brake pads do take awhile to break-in!!
You should Look into Ceramic Brake pads for your Taco!! I have them on my 4Runner and I'm running 33" tires!! They stop really well!! And bonus they don't dust nearly as much as the others!!
