Odd sound during acceleration... Clutch?

A kind of screech sound (almost like a tire squeal but not) sometimes briefly happens when I'm accellerating from 1st to 2nd as I release the clutch in 2nd and im underpowered while giving alot of gas; hopefully that makes sense.

For example:

I'm on a hill stopped facing up the hill. I accelerate, shift into second and begin to let the clutch out while applying increasingly more gas (to make up for the pause in shifting and the increasing grade) and if i hit the gas too much while the clutch is just about to engage there will be a long whiney squeal until a couple seconds after the clutch fully engages. It has only done it like 3 times, but it concerns me.

Any ideas?

Same here

I get the exact same behavior. My rig is also chirping like a cricket at idle with the clutch out. I'm told this is the throwout bearing squeaking against the fingers of the pressure plate, and that it is annoying but not a problem. I'm thinking the squeal under acceleration may be from the same source.

mine makes a nice loud whine when i gas it with the clutch partially engaged. i think it's most likely the throwout bearing.

So not a huge problem? Or should I look at replacing the bearing?

could it be a slipping belt? Just a thought. My 99 had a bad throw oput bearing and it made just light whine while the clutch was out. I never heard during acceleration

T/O Bearing

It probably is most likely your T/O bearing and if you're going to replace it and go through the trouble of replacing it, you might think about a new clutch and pressure plate while you're in there.

I had a a screech/squeaking sound everytime I let out the clutch and determined that I needed an entire clutch job. Took it to the tranny shop and they diagnosed it as a bad u joint. Boy was I happy to hear that!! It fixed the problem. Might be worth looking into the u joint(s) before an expensive (if you take it to a shop), pain in the ass (if you do it yourself), clutch job.
