O2 Sensor Troubles
Tonight I thought I was well on my way to ridding my rig of the check engine light from my front O2 sensor. I followed the 4x4wire write up on it ( http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/4Runner/tech/O2_Sensor/) and he is right that, BY FAR, the hardest part is getting the stupid wire connector apart
Anyway, armed with what I THOUGHT was the correct replacement part I set out for a straightforward swap. First I broke the bolt holding the wiring plugs. It was a little corroded so it's not that hard to see this happening. "Well crap, I guess I'll just zip tie it for now".
I get the sensor off to discover that the wiring plugs are not compatible WTF!?
Now this is not a flame but I bought this from Evan at Northridge Toyota and he's been a major help, but something must have gone wrong with his computer. He used my VIN so I'm not sure what could have gone wrong, but this thing will not connect to my rig.
I'll check with him tomorrow, but I'm totally bummed.
Here are some pics illustrating the problem
The pigtails are not the same length.
The part of the sensor in the exhaust is not the same shape.
And the problem of all problems... The plugs are almost completely backwards. The connecting clip is on the top for both sensors (new is on the left). Pay close attention to the ridges around the edges, as these are clearly not the same.
I put the old one back on, and it did it's usual thing and threw the code after about 4 min, so thankfully I can still drive it, but I'm actually worse off as I snapped that bolt holding the wiring connectors. :pat:
We'll see what Evan can figure out.

What was the part number on the bag for the sensor he sent you?
Is your 99 4unner a dual cat (ie Cali spec) or single cat (49 state spec) 4runner?
Then we can at least figure out what you got and what you should have gotten sensor wise.

Is this the part number you got: a/f sensor 89467-35011?
I just bought one from Evan but he's having it delivered to my buddy's shop. I hope to get this taken care of tonight or Saturday.
BTW, what code did you get?

Hi Erich, I just tried to call you. It looks like you need the A/F sensor, not the front O2 sensor. The part # you recieved is 89465-80034(front O2 sensor), the part in the pic you need is an A/F sensor part # 89467-35011. Call me here at 818-734-5600, did get it exchanged. Evan.

Sorry for the delay. Work got hectic in a hurry.
Evan and I figured out the problem. I ordered the A/F sensor but the front O2 sensor jumped off the shelf and into the mail No biggie though, the right one is on the way.
Thanks again Evan for all your help.
