newer used alternator in 82 4x4
Ok I have searched and I can’t find anything. I need to know how I should wire up my new alternator; it is one out of a newer truck and is the rounder type that has the internal regulator. It has a plug on the back of it that has three prongs two parallel and one perpendicular. Witch ones goes to what?? I am putting it in an 82 4x4 thanks a lot

From the back, the three connections will look like this: |-| (roughly). The left vertical goes to the Ignition, the middle horizontal goes to the Sense and right vertical goes to the Lamp. These are the IG, S and L connections if you have your Toy FSM. The IG turns the alternator on, S provides the input for voltage regulation and the L operates your alternator lamp.
Just to the right of these three connectors is a brass bolt about 1/4" indiameter (but metric of course). This should go to the battery via the 80 amp fuse in the fuse box. Do not connect this terminal directly to the battery, ensue it goes through a properly sized fuse.
Speaking of wiring up a 1 or 3 wire alternator to the Toy system, here is my paper on how I did it with a 140 amp alternator from Summit Racing and Powermaster:

I hope this helps.

ok thanks a lot albin. i read your other page and this altenator is going to be a second one as i will leave the stock one in it. it looks like i can wire it up like this B = fused battery(? amp), IG = low voltage to ignition, S = low voltage to B, and L i could wire to a volt meater or leave it dead thanks Neil Smith
